Favourite Worst Nightmare is basically a more mature version of the debut produced more cleanly with stronger recording skills and a better budget by a band that is road-tested and better because of it. Favourite Worst Nightmare moves from frontal blast quickly to the lean mid-paced pop nugget Teddy Picker which even with its clear guitars and straight rhythms still has Turners tart intonation piercing the air. The 2006 debut from these punky huge-at-home English boys rocked and popped with straightforward brilliance while doubling as a primer on working-class Sheffield nightlife. It lacks the weighty sound of Arctic Monkeys later albums but it actually benefits from this taking on a youthful and corrosive attitude that is frankly infectious.
